THROUGH THE TUNNEL BY DORRIS LESSING

SETTINGS

PLACE: Beach
TIME: Summer
PLOT

 A young English boy went on holiday with his mother for swimming and sunbathing. His mother who is a widow is concerned for her son to be who he wants to be.
 Though he knew his mother was not quite happy about him being out on the bay alone, he went to swim anyway.The English boy swam towards some boys  far on the rocks.The boys waved at him and they noticed he is a foreigner. He felt accepted as he dived and they watched him.He failed as he tried to stay under water for some time as one of the biggest boys did.Suddenly he was left behind alone and the boys has dissapeared. He finds out that they went through a tunnel in a rock and he was impressed. He tried all he could to go through also and he decided to do it also. He decided to learn controlling his breath and tried though he kept bleeding.
 After a hard and tough time of practice, Jerry finally manages to go through the tunnel and he was proud to tell his mother he can stay under water for some minutes.

CHARACTERISTICS OF PROTAGONIST


 Jerry is the main character 
 He is an English boy and he is 11 years old.
 He was a good swimmer.
 He was hard working 
 He does not give up on what he wants.
